Countdown to the iphone developement kit

This article informed me a lot about how controlling cell-phone service carriers can be without restriction. The SDK software that Steve Jobs is wanting to unleash for the iphone is pretty revolutionary in that it is going to allow any 3rd parties to make applications to run on the iphone. Reading further I read that until recently Verizon Wireless (who I have) has not allowed any applications to be run on the phones that use their network unless it is their own. They already have you cornered with the re-contracting every two years for some crappy phone, now I find out that every time I use an application like to get a ringtone I am just putting more money in their already oversized pockets. It makes me want an iphone, and also a less greedy network.
