Diseased Turtles

http://www.latimes.com/news/science/la-sci-turtle25jan25,1,5305107.story?ctrack=3&cset=true.

The issue that this article presents is that there is a new threat concerning pet turtles. There have now been over 100 reported cases of people in 33 different states getting sickened with salmonella carried by their infected turtles. According to the article, small turtles are particularly problematic because they "are often bred in crowded conditions and are more likely to be given to children as pets".

This article is super interesting because I never knew that salmonella could be carried by turtles. I always knew about the raw eggs, but not turtles.

The Center for Disease Control, or "CDC", seems to have a handle on the outbreak so far. People just need to avoid close contact (i.e., petting, playing, kissing) turtles.
