A 32 year old man named Fouad al-Farhan was recently arrested because of a blog that he wrote that violated regulations in his home country. He is in prison because he supported reform advocates that the government thinks support terrorism and talked about this subject on his blog. He has been told that he can be released in three days if he apologizes, but he is not sure if he wants to say sorry because he feels he did nothing wrong. The United States is very interested in this subject because we believe in freedom of speech, and that is what they are telling the Saudi Arabian government.
I find this article interesting because someone was just expressing their opinion about a certain subject, just like millions of people do worldwide, and now he is being punished for his actions. I don't feel like he was threatening anyone with his comments, and should not be in prision. I think this will have an impact on bloggers around the world because now that they know that people are getting in trouble for what the say, they may think about what they write in their own blogs. Making comments about subjects dealing with government and terrorism can be dangerous, and bloggers need to be careful about what they say.
Hopefully nothing serious will happen to this man and he will be released soon.
