I came across this article that talks about the president of Wesleyan University in Connecticut, Michael Roth, and how he uses his blog as an outreach tool for students, alumni and parents. This article talks about Roth's first blog when he became president of the university. Roth's blog mentioned what he did at home to contribute to decreasing global warming. His blog received more that 50 replies from students and alumni of the university. Afterwards he met with various student organizations and signed a commitment to reduce global warming and educate students about environmental issues.
I think this is a great way that blogs could be used. The article also mentioned that as many as 30 or colleges in North America use blogging to reach out to students. I think this could be a great impact at any university because it gives students and parents a great opportunity to talk about important issues in society. This also allows for students and parents to interact with university officials, such as the president of the university.
