How to Identify Bad CIOs in Their Natural Habitat
http://www.cio.com/article/186800
I wanted to get this last post in toward the closing of this blog to bring more "value" to this little article I am posting. I think it has a lot of value for those working in the real world. Pretty much the article tells you the common traits and characteristics of bad or deceptive CIOs. For each suggestion of advice mentioned in the article there is a real-life account of CIOs that have followed each of these trends. Most importantly, it tells you what to avoid doing when you become a CIO yourself.
Here's to the closing of the MIS Spring 2008 Blog.

Electric Bike
With gas prices at about four dollars per gallon, it is no surprise that people are looking for new means of transportation. The E+ electric bike is a good way to beat the soaring gas prices. This two-wheeler can achieve speeds of up to thirty miles per hour without the need for you to pedal. The bike can carry you twenty miles without any extra work on your part on a single charge. If you do decide to do a little work, you’ll get around forty miles out of it. This bike would be ideal for someone who is traveling relatively short distances on a daily basis. If you live out in the country, you probably wouldn’t want to ride all the way to work every day, but this bike would be perfect for a college student who lives near campus.

Motorized Pool Lounge Chair
Growing up in Palm Springs, I have been through my share of pool accessories but this new Motorized Pool Lounge Chair takes the cake. When I am lounging in my pool it is extremely important that I stay in the middle of the pool. I get extremely annoyed when I float to one end of the pool and I can’t get back to the middle without getting wet or using a ton of energy by pushing off the side. The Motorized Pool Lounge Chair is equipped with two quiet electric motors that drive two propellers hidden below the surface, dual joystick steering, cushioned backrest and armrests with a built-in drink holder, and it Inflates quickly and easily with included electric pump.

The WB returning for online videos
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2288799,00.asp
In an effort to attract younger viewers, Warner Bros. is relaunching The WB. But, this time it will be an online video effort rather than broadcast television. The website feature some of the WB's original programs like the show "Friends". The website is intended to target 16-34 year olds. I think this is a good move by Warner Bros. because online video programming is becoming much more popular. As internet speeds get faster, people can stream much larger video files which ultimately means higher video quality. I think that video quality is always going to be a battle for online video programmers, but it recent years it has definately gotten better.

Robot Soldier
“Israel's newest soldier can see at night, never nods off on sentry duty and can carry 660 pounds without complaining”. It is vehicle invented by the Israeli military that is essentially a robotic soldier, among the first in the world to be operational. The robot does not require anybody to be onboard. The Robot vehicle is operated from a command center that would be a lot further away from where the action is taking place. The vehicle has cameras, night-vision, sensors, and armory. “It can replace human soldiers in dangerous roles, cutting casualty rate”.

Cancerous Cell Phones??
I have heard about this on the news a couple times and seen it in the newspaper. A neurosurgeon is telling us about how cell phones cause cancer. He is claiming that more people will die from cancer caused from cell phones than smoking or asbestos. The only problem is that his claims come on tests of older studies. Other studies claim that there is no harm caused by cell phones. Unfortunately, only time will tell, and it might be too late by then.
