Even though RIM has significant amount of the smartphone market, the introduction of the Iphone has decreased it its market share from 45 percent to 40 percent. There are many things that are planned in the future for the Iphone, but RIM is hoping to keep battling to be a top dog in the smartphone market. The increase of the popularity is shown in Fortune 500 companies. One-third of those companies has said that it is interested in giving Iphones to their employees. In June, Apple is expected to release their new 3G version of the Iphone which will again compete with the RIM phones that are released in the same time period.
It seems as if the consumers for RIM and the Iphone are from different sides. It just depends on if you need it as more of a computer type or for entertainment. The Iphone is more for entertainment, while RIM phones are more for business type people who need to check their schedules constantly.
