Surf clothing and accessory manufacturer O'Neill recently contracted a data storage firm, Data Domain, to take over their data backup responsibilities in five locations in Europe. Data Domain has offered them a compression rate of nearly 18x, reducing the manufacturer's data from 57 terabytes to 3. I have been surfing for a little while and work at a surf shop, and I can say that this is an unusual transition into new technology. For some reason or another, it seems as if companies in the surfing industry have been reluctant or slow to adopt hi-tech business strategies, so good job O'Neill!
