Retailers recently stopped selling analog TV sets because the analog signal is phasing out and switching to a digital one. This change will come about as of February 9, 2009. Analog TVs will still work but will need a cable box or digital converter. They just won't be able to pick up over the air broadcasts. "It's estimated that some 20 million households rely on analog broadcasting as their sole means of receiving television." Seven retailers that, until recently, stopped selling these analog TVs were fined almost $4 million by the FCC. The retailers were fined because they failed to provide warning labels (that they were soon going to be out of date) on their analog TVs. Big retailers have said that they were going to take a "leadership role" in educating their customers on the analog to digital transition. The FCC found out that about 81 percent of the sales staff gave bad information about digital converters or they didn't know about them. If anyone of you is thinking about buying a TV, make sure it comes with a digital tuner.
