Blockbuster eyes streaming to TVs

Blockbuster is developing a set-top device that aims to bring thousands of broadband videos to customer’s living rooms. The product would be an offshoot of Movielink, the online-film service Blockbuster acquired last year, which allows consumers to watch films licensed from the major studios on their PCs. While reading this article I couldn’t stop thinking that this device may drive the video rental stores (along with Blockbuster) out of business. I couldn’t understand why Blockbuster would do that to themselves. But that is exactly what they are going to do. They hope that the Blockbuster brand will reinvent itself and become a strong force on line. Though this will be bad for employees in the Blockbuster stores it will be interesting to see if Blockbuster stores will fade away and be found only on the internet. Makes you kind of think how the world will be in twenty years. Will business in the world rely solely on the internet rather than both stores and internet some day?

I think this would be a good idea for them. I heard Blockbuster was almost out of business because of companies like NetFlix that are much less expensive.
