There are many kinds of "new RAM" technologies coming out. We have DDR3, MetaRAM, and now memory technology developed by IBM. They seem to claim their memory is faster and cheaper. But what about the implementation costs for adopting IBM's memory technology. How about making memory manufacturers change their memory technology standards to fit with IBM's? It doesn't sound like a good idea to me... It's like Blu-Ray and DVD... DVD will be around for a long time because there aren't too many current distinctions Blu-Ray has over DVDs besides size and quality depth.
This is what IBM claims about their memory technology:
RAM is fast but expensive, and hard drives are slow but cheap. Racetrack memory, says Parkin, will be both fast and cheap.
