Fighting Poverty With Technology

MIT professor Martin Fisher and his team at KickStart, a nonprofit, invented the pump for small-scale farmers. The pump cost about $100 dollars and it can irrigate about two acres of land. It is human powered and very easy to use, which allows farmers to irrigate all year around, instead of waiting for the rain. The significance of this new invention is that new technology is not always electronic or controlled by a computer.
