Gartner: $100 laptop still too expensive for the emerging markets

http://blogs.zdnet.com/BTL/?p=8403

I think about $100 notebooks and I think of disposable. But reading this article made me realize again that not every individual around the world can afford a $100 laptop. I am not sure if the figures seem correct regarding the number of computers per 1,000 based by country, but here they are:

Some key stats:

  • The U.S. has 812 PCs per 1,000 people.
  • The U.K. has 699.
  • India has 28 per 1,000.
  • China has 93 per 1,000.
It's an interesting read since it also introduces all the "cheap" notebooks that are currently in the market. Maybe you guys might to pick up one of these as a gift for somebody.
