I have made the point before that the Windows operating system series are more vulnerable than Mac-related operating systems because there's a larger userbase using Windows... Well in terms of security Windows is definitely always under attack, but look at its standardization. This article deals with a very important aspect of MIS, that is the cost-effectiveness of implementing a new software component into an already existing information system. The experience of this CTO, or chief technology officer, explains how he made his engineer department switch from Windows to a Mac operating system environment with major consequences.
Some of the consequences I find most interesting is the software compatibility conflicts between converting between Windows and Mac based software. Since not all the computers were converted to Macs, in order for the engineer team of the company to make presentations to the rest of the company they had to constantly convert files back and forth between Windows and Macs... Interesting article, very interesting read.

It's Too Darn Hot
http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/08_13/b4077060400752.htm?campaign
Ever wonder why as technology improves we still get computers that produce the same amount of heat, or even more heat, than computers we had a decade ago? This article from businessweek focuses on the energy crisis experienced in technology currently and how to cool down all those database servers that we just covered in our second exam (the information structure chapter, chapter 6). Interesting read because to me it seems like technology improves but we still cannot find ways to reduce heat created when running a computer. With Intel's new Atom Processor, you don't even need to put a heatsink on the processor, it runs perfectly fine without one!

Ever wondered what websites real geeks visit? Out of these 25 sites, I have actually visited or regularly visit about 5 to 10 of the sites. So I guess I am not a complete geek yet. Cya classmates, I got a geekdom transformation to go for. *clicks first website*

Intel's Atom Architecture: The Journey Begins
http://anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/intel/showdoc.aspx?i=3276&p=21
Thinking back to the days when we were doing our group presentations on different hardware parts, I thought about posting this elaborate article on Intel's new Atom processor. What the article goes through is the process of how the Atom was built, the processes and information system that was implemented by Intel to make this processor, the goals and objectives, and an in-depth look at in-order processors, which is the type of processor Intel is. Very informative article about processors and you will get a lot out of this very in-depth surface view of Intel's Atom Processor.

Former President Clinton Is Becoming a Millionaire
Clinton has made more money since he left the White House in 2000. The couple paid $33.8 million in taxes from 2000 through 2007. They listed $10.25 million in charitable contributions during that period. Mrs. Clinton could easily use $5 million to pay for her presidential campaign this year. How did they make so much money?

Save DOS: The Ultimate Antidote to Vista's Bloat
http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,143819/article.html
DOS is the savior for today's operating systems. It was efficient in its time and was easily updated to fix bugs and errors. The limitations to DOS were only in your imagination. If you look at the Windows Server 2003 core kernel, you will notice that the environment is VERY SIMILAR to the old DOS environment. Why need a GUI when you can have an operating system that can be at its most efficient state to deliver to you effective results?
***Spoiler*** (Highlight Below)
This is an April Fool's Joke. However, remember that MIS looks to deliver information that a company desires for to complete its objectives and goals. Thus if they see modern operating systems and don't see the needs for such, they might go for a non-GUI based operating system and work from there...

iPhone contender?
Check it out
This new phone from Samsung, called the Instinct is a probable contender for the iPhone. Many companies are coming out with their versions of the iPhone. Many have failed, and this seems to be one that might come close.
It does run off the faster 3G network that the iPhone does not use...yet. It is said to have a very friendly user interface and has expandable memory, vibration each time you tap the screen, and even a replaceable battery.
However the mail and internet programs are said to not be as smooth as the iPhone's. My personal opinion - this phone looks pretty cool and seems like it could offer some great things that the iPhone doesn't but the Apple interface on iPhone is one that will never be duplicated. It also is strange that every company who puts out an iPhone contender feels it is necessary to make the phone look exactly like the iPhone. Can people not make their own designs? Maybe find something that is even more appealing.
We will see what happens, especially in this coming summer with more and more iPhone competition. However, once the iPhone SDK is in full bloom...these other phones might be hurting.
