While some areas still lack access to 3g cellphone networks, AT&T has already begun drafting plans on how it will implement its new 4g network.
AT&T won the wireless blocks B and C of the 700 mhz spectrum auction. These open airwaves will allow AT&T to start upgrading its wireless communication technology to 4g faster than normal, because they have to deal with less regulations on these wireless blocks.
Their current GSM infastructure will be changed to a Long Term Evolution (LTE) network which will not only provide better coverage but also faster access, that all wireless providers are adopting in the future.
With cellphone devices becoming more capable of handling day-to-day computer activities they need more bandwidth to handle all of the information being transferred. 4g networks will hopefully help with streaming HD content, and video conferencing straight to from your phone.
