Toshiba is planning to ship 512GB solid state drives by 2009 when it expects these storage devices to claim one-fourth of the market, according to Japan-based reports

This is one of the few technologies that is something to get excited about. Right now if you use a notebook in a car when its driving (as the passanger) the movement of the car will destroy the notebook's harddrive. Havcing a massive solid state drive prevents this issue because the drive is not prone to failiure due to the movement of the car.

Also the drive uses less power and creates less heat. Makeing the notebook battery last longer and mitigates heat damage. Now only if the drive can provide 100MBps + data transfer!
